Microsoft has officially announced that password storage and autofill features will be removed from its Authenticator app. From August 1st, 2025, you’ll no longer be able to access your saved passwords or stored payment details in the app.
What’s changing?
Microsoft Authenticator will continue to support secure login methods like multi-factor authentication (MFA) and passkeys, but the autofill and password management features are being phased out.
Here’s the timeline:
- June 2025 – Users could no longer save new passwords in Authenticator.
- August 1st, 2025 – Any stored passwords and payment information will become inaccessible.
Microsoft is steering users toward using Microsoft Edge for autofill and password syncing, but for many people and businesses, this won’t be the best long-term solution.

- Transition to Microsoft Edge by enabling it as your autofill provider.
