Windows 11 is Microsoft’s latest Operating System (OS), introduced in 2021 as a successor to Windows 10. Up until now, users have been able to continue using Windows 10 but Microsoft will be ceasing support for Windows 10 from October 14th, 2025, leaving devices that are still operating the old OS open to security threats.
Windows 11 was inspired by the workforce’s transition to hybrid and remote working and focuses on increasing productivity, creativity, and personalisation. It is built on the same foundation as Windows 10, so a lot of the functions remain the same. However, Windows 11 brings with it a suite of new functionality. The new OS has been designed with a modern, fresh, clean feel and the opportunity for greater personalisation. Focusing on ease of use, Microsoft has centred the start button, making it quicker for you to find what you need. By utilising the power of the cloud Microsoft 11 allows you to view your recent 365 files regardless of what device you last viewed them on.
Key new features of Windows 11 include the introduction of Microsoft’s Generative AI tool – Copilot. Copilot assists with tasks such as summarising documents and generating images from written prompts. Windows 11 also brings the introduction of Snap Layouts, Snap Groups and desktops, allowing you to multitask more easily and create custom desktops for work and home.
Justin Chapman, Director at Press Start, gave his opinion on Windows 11 – “Windows 11 represents a significant leap forward in how we interact with our devices, blending productivity, creativity, and personalisation seamlessly. As businesses continue to adapt to hybrid and remote work environments, Windows 11 provides the tools and features necessary to thrive in this new landscape. We’re excited to support our clients in unlocking the full potential of this powerful operating system.”
Businesses need to act now to avoid any potential security threats that are brought about by not upgrading to Windows 11. You can upgrade your device from Windows 10 to Windows 11, but not all devices are eligible, and you may need to purchase new devices.
